No account or instrument required to listen

Nothing autoplays. Loading changes the current groove, but leaves saved scene slots and master volume untouched. Section buttons restore their recipes rather than carrying your edits across.

The short version

Availability
The hosted app is currently free. No account or email signup is required to play; updates are optional.
Sound
Recorded acoustic drums with synth fallback, synthesized bass, and synthesized rhythm-guitar or keys accompaniment.
Practice setups
Galloping, Doom, Death and Prog setups each offer four editable sections. These are generated grooves, not song transcriptions or original recordings.
Control
Tempo, key, meter, swing, instruments and fills are editable. Voice and MIDI depend on browser support, permissions and compatible devices.
Scenes
Ten local slots hold named configurations. JSON scene import/export transfers settings, not recorded audio or MIDI files.
Platform
A browser app, not a DAW plugin or native mobile app. Internet is needed for initial loading and recordings; a complete offline workflow is not promised.

Text and visible controls work without a microphone or MIDI controller. Browser support varies; check compatibility before a hands-free or hardware demonstration. Mock Band is a practice companion, not an AI song generator, recording workstation or open-source release.

From the creator

Why Mock Band exists

Paul Gendek wanted to change tempo, key and feel without putting down his guitar to reach for a laptop. The idea became an adjustable browser rhythm section, shaped by real footswitch testing and human product decisions.

Creator-authored background, separate from independent editorial coverage. The October 1 case study includes development decisions, architecture and dated early playback evidence, not a customer-success or retention claim.
